How Can My Dog and I Be Good Citizens on Local Trails?

The Grateful Dogs advocate responsible dog ownership and trail etiquette by promoting the following:
  • Purchase an annual CBJ dog license for your canine companion.
  • Display your dog’s current CBJ license tag on an appropriate collar or harness for your dog.
  • Ensure that your dog is under control, either by leash or voice command at all times.
  • Keep your dog out of the way of other citizens, including bird watchers, walkers, parents with strollers, bicyclists, runners, skiers, etc.
  • Not allow your dog to touch someone who does not want to be touched.
  • When walking your dog off-leash, give the right-of-way to others with their dogs that are on-leash.
  • Not allow your dog to harass wildlife.
  • Pick up your dog’s waste and dispose of it properly.
  • Meet the needs of your canine companion, including:
    • Cleanliness
    • Health
    • Grooming
    • Nutrition
    • Training
    • Appropriate Exercise
